Seeing the Bigger Picture
I’ve been back on the East Coast for 3 months now. It’s been a whirlwind getting to know the exposed versions of people I thought I’d peeled down to the last layer years ago.
But I’d forgotten about winter.
I forgot that seasons change. The years pass and if you remember to water things, they grow-
And so everyone is different.
I’m getting to see clips of things I’ve missed in the way that people bite their tongues, and hold one another.
In words chosen
Between
Quiet moments.
Those spoken
As if not meant for
Listening ears.
But I hear them.
“There are 2 kinds of people in this world.” One of them tells me, “there are givers, and takers.” And he is right. I can see so in the way that he sits now; what he means. He sits like me. In that way we all do as we age, with a tired understanding. Exhausted by the pieces of us pulled away with each polite smile, well mannered minute and disingenuous conversation.
Rough, is every day that we waste denying ourselves wholeness.
But there are two types of people in this world and so rather than be angry with those who pick away pieces; I am learning my place in the puzzle. That I have been carefully cut up with reason so that I may find wholeness through being together.
